Ok guys i have a 135 under a window that gets a few hours of sun a day, plus i keep the lights on 14 hours a day!
I just got a deaal on some plants so now i am finally have my planted dream tank for my huge BGK!
I have 2 Java Ferns 2 foot by 2 foot along with 10 huge Anubias. I have about 2 LBS of Java Moss! I love this tank.
Please anything i can do to make everything live and grow? Am i using too much light and does anybody think i should add chemicals and CO2 etc etc.
The Anubias all have 12 inch roots do they go under gravel or do they get wrapped around wood? Thanks in advance for any help!! Seems the java moss is turning a little brown could that be from too much sun?

Lighting isn't going to be an issue with any of those plants. Co2 and ferts are not needed, but will help. A good substrate is highly recommendable. The lights don't need to be on that long. Anubias don't have to be on wood, but the rhizome needs to be out of the substrate.

sounds like an awesome tank. would love to see pics. 14 hours a day is a lot i wouldnt worry about light in that tank

I wanted to ask does the anubias roots need to be under gravel or do they just wrap around wood be cool!

Anubias will just root directly into the wood. They are a plant that needs the rhizome to be exposed, and not buried in the substrate. You can put the roots in the sub if you want, but just make sure your rhizomes are exposed and your anubia will live very happily.

Thanks alot bro so having the roots all swaying in the current is cool they dont have to be buried. I love my Anubias i got lucky at my lfs the boss wanted to go party on a friday and sold me 6 huge plants for 10 bucks ecah awooooo!

We don't get huge plants for sale around here. One shop if you see a big anubia and ask for it they say, "oh, that one needs to be fragged, and then it will resold."

yup, Anubias suffers if its rhizome is completely buried. You can bury them to a point, but make sure that the main horizontal root is at least partly exposed. But most people prefer attaching them to driftwood. They just so cool growing out of wood! You can strap it to the driftwood with some thread or fishing line until it actually takes hold.

I agree it sounds awesome. Pics would be great!

Depending on the plant there are two things I use to root plants to objects. 1 is a rubberband, but this is only for fast rooting plants. The second is black cotton thread, this is for slower rooting plants, or for plants in high flow. Cotton is better than nylon or fishing line because over a few weeks it will disintagrate on its own, and by that time most plants will have rooted.

Two pounds of java moss!!!

I bought a tennis ball size lump of it off of ebay in june or so. I grew it onto a piece of slate, put it around my anubia and filled my ghost shrimp tank. I don't fertilize my shrimp tank or trim the moss there, but I have to trim it on every water change in my main tank. Keep on top of it or it will get caught in your other plants.
