In my fish tanks.
hey guys i was just wondering how do i take care of an anubias plant.
do i need to put like a co2 tank or will air bubbles sufice. do i need to buy some forumla? basically do i need anything for it to grow?

dont all plant live off co2 not oxygen?

hey thats y i asked lol

Most anubias a slow growers that don't take a lot to look after. I think Co2 would make it grow faster but isn't necessary, you might get a better response in the planted section.

All plants live off both CO2 and Oxygen. CO2 is sequestered and turned into hydrocarbons and sugars where they're stored during the day. At night those sugars and hydrocarbons are "burned" producing CO2. In order to "burn" the sugars and hydrocarbons the plants require water and O2.

Now as for anubias plants, they don't require CO2. Are you having problems with one now or just asking around?

anubias are easy to grow. as long as you have some light and fish in the tank they should grow fine. the fish will produce more then enough nutrients for the anubias. as long as you have enough gas exchange to keep your fish from dieing that should be enough for anubias to grow. (if you completly fill your tank with anubias then you may need to start adding fertz but if you only have a few you should not need to add them)

if you want faster growth you can add more light, more co2 and more fertz and that will improve growth rate. if you want an easy way to improve growth you can buy some root tabs (they go buy different names for different companies) but these just add more nutrients to the soil around your plants roots. since anubias are big root feeders this will help them alot. this is not a must but it can help.

:iagree: i had lots of anubias in a high light / pressurized co2 / full fert routine and they grew like mad sprouting new leaves very fast. when i had them in a low light no co2 tank they would sprout a new leaf once every 2-3 weeks.

they are slow growers, but if you provide the right conditions they will take off. and adding air bubbles is not gonna do anything for the plant :)

That's not accurate unless you are greatly overstocked. Anubias do not require much in the way of nutrients though.

i have a 29 tank with 3 24watt HO T-5s and co2 injection with anubias, java fern, crypts, 3 types of moss, blyxa and rotalla and i add no ferts just a weekly water change. the stock is 3 neon tetras and about 80 shrimp. i have very little algea problems and all my my plants are colored up nicely.

but a agree that the plants will benifit from fertz and added nutrients but not reguired.
