Well I'm trying to buy a rat as pet....

(NOT SNAKE FOOD :banhim:)

I'm, at the moment, stuck deciding where to buy one ( Two...Seems like i have to get two...). I tried searching online to see if I could buy it from petco or petsmart, but theres people saying they are bad stores.... (Which they are)

So any ideas? Should I get it from one of those two stores? Or search for a breeder?

an of those seems fine to me for a pet. buy it small though so you can have a adult that is used to ya.

Yea, I plan to do that, but I'm just scared the rats may not be in healthy condition due to the conditions they have them in.

the big pet chain stores seem to be cleaner than any private pet store i've ever been to.

Do not buy from petsmart. They say they are vet checked but both I have gotten from them had respiratory problems!
Talk to your local pet store and see if they can order you a fancy. If not, ask to see their babies that are already weaned. Pick out your fav. (girls have more personality!)

If you are planning to have him as a companion then I suggest only one. Yes, I know they are social but the one that I had in solitary was way more personable than the two brothers.

How are you planning to house it? They like multiple levels/obstacles in their habitat.
Do not feed him sunflowers (it causes them to loose fur and have dandruff).

They make great pets overall! Very attention seeking! Unfortunately, they live roughly 2-3 years.

So just 1 ?

As far as them having respiratory problems... I have heard of that.

If you don't mind me asking, what would the benefits of having a baby rat? That probably increase the bill (Vet bills)

I have a 2 level house waiting for him/her.

And... I havent kept this type of animal before so.... Whats a fancy?

I personally think any pet store is fine as long as the rats look healthy act healthy and are in a clean enviroment
are you getting dumbos or hooded?

No matter where you get them make sure they are healthy it seems to me alot of them have respiratory problems so listen to him breathing make sure it doesnt sound congested and look for any discharge coming from the nose and open-mouthed breathing.

i've gotten rats from petco to use as breeders. the only problom i had was they didn't breed! (so they got wacked) other than that they seemed rather healthy.
