Hey all. I have a baby alligator gar i just got the other week. He appears to sit on top of the tank the majority of the time. Right now I have a 75 gallon tank. Yess i know they get to be 10ft long and a whole lot of info about them. Ive attached some pictures. And as you can see, I have a pretty filled aquarium with rocks, wood, and plants. Does anyone think the less the better for a gar? reason being, when I put the feeder fish in, they usually go to the bottom and the gar doesnt like going down there so he doesnt get much of a chance to eat them. I dono help if you have any information. Thanks!

You probably should post this in the gar forum-Anne

The answer to your question is unless you have a tank that is something like the size you see at most large aquariums, you will not be able to keep that fish to maturity, and it should never have been removed from its native waters.

Thanks chief but I didnt catch it from its native waters. I'l let it go after it outgrows my tank, however big it may be

NEVER do this. That is extremely irresponsible of you. You can wipe out entire populations with the diseases you could be spreading. Do you really want to take that chance?
