I had no idea what that was. I thought it was henna. It transferred an image to the glass cover. I do think it's rice paper.

I took a print making class in college and we used rice paper for a project and it looks a lot like what you have. Plus, my mother has an antique print hanging up in her house that is a similar style to yours and I believe rice paper was used. I'll have to ask her where it's from. I want to say Thailand.
