I bought some Tetrachiclid pellets for a friend of mine, the fish seemed to love them, you could even hear an audible crunching noise while they ate the food, the water conditions were doing quite well, Nitrates were 20 Ammonia/Nitrites were both 0 the before water change. Changed 20% of the water on the tank and started to give the fish the new food. 2 days later all the fish in the tank that were eating the food were dead, when I tested the water for them the Ammonia was 1.0 Nitrite was .75 Nitrate was 10. The first 3 fish died on friday, and the last 2 died saturday each being between 4 - 7 inches in length. Now the first fish sat in the tank for atleast 24 hours before I could come to clear out the tank, 3 of the 5 fish floated and 2 sat on the bottom of the tank. One of them had its intestines coming out its pooper, the only remaining occupent of the tank was a 8 inch plec that would keep coming to the surface for air about every 2 min. In particular one of the fish (Red Zebra I think) was a real trooper and had been through a lot of bad water conditions prior to me helping her set up a proper home for the fish in the first place. The tank just for note is a 90 tall, with a Ehime 2217 filtering the tank. The only thing that we could come up with is that the food killed the fish. Has anyone else had any issues like this? Originally the fish were just on flake food, then switched to the tetrachiclid chiclid sticks I think they are calld. I felt bad because at first I thought it could have been something I did, but I know that the tank was good when I left.
It is possible that the first 3 fish died which resulted in the last 2 dieing from poisoned water.
