hey guys, know any other catfish that "grows" hehe! i know ya'll know what i mean.... i've had 2++ feet irred sharks and paroons before... but they really pollute the water so much... anyway, know anyother cats that could coexist with these? or at least compare to their sizes? hmmm... say 1.5 feet (too small?) or more:)

I had a huge 26" Marble cat when I first started keeping big cats. He was about 20" when a local pet shop gave him to me to get it out of their 75 . He was definately RTC or TSN compatible at that size. Great fish with a RTC like personality. HUGE whiskers :D

the hybrid of the two makes a good choice for companion. A comparison tank if you will, but it would need to be a huge tank.

i keep really big royal clown knifefish with mine. basically i can keep any large catfish with them (ie. channel cat) or even really big arowanas. emphasis on the REALLY BIG so there r no disasters...:s

hey guys great info. my uncle had a marble cat which was really huge... he kept it with his pimas (and my arapiama! which i had to give to him) rtcs and tsns that were also huge... tho it's really getting very hard to find those... and the growth rate are much slower from what i've heard... my cats are gettin huge by the min and i'm afraid that when the time comes that i get my hands on a marble, he'll be small enough to be eaten:( sadly...

anyways, i already have a CK and a Royal but they'd have to fatten up a bit before they get mixed... i i really don't like em in ponds.... the knives often hides and rarely shows up. the water must be pristine and crystal clear for ya to see em! hhaha

any other cats? oh btw... I really really wish i could get a crossbred tsn-rtc..... they're just sooo damn beautiful! (might turn me suicidal!) haha!

btw, does anyone think a jau is an option... i know it's farfetche'd and i don't think i have the resources and capabities to handle one YET... but give me time and more knowledge and who knows!:D

Jau are definitely an option, but they are like bullies of the SA catfish. They have a nasty temperment. If you don't feed them constantly they will look at any other fish as prey and start taking bits out of fins, tails, or just bit the fish in half if it can't swallow it. This is from personal expirience. Another consideration is even though it gets much much larger than rtc and tsn they grow much much slower. Eventually you would have to keep it in a seperate tank until it could catch back up. They grow fast to about 16", then it's only like 1/2" per month from my expirience. I will have to house mine seperate after my rtc, tsn, rtcxmarble hybrid, and channel get's larger. Irridescent sharks of a large size would work great and give you some upper level activity in the tank, paroon sharks also come to mind, but as with the jau, they get massive. A member on here had some sucess keeping a yarelli in a large warm water tank even though they are supposed to be cold water fish, and they can get to 5', but have teeth so it's a risk. Marble catfish IMO will have to be purchased at a really large size to be housed with rtc and tsn. If you get one already 2' and keep it in the large tank seperate until the others are large enough to go in with it you'd be fine, but eventually a few years from now they might get large enough to eat him. There's many catfish that get large enough to house with them, but finding them is the hard part. A planiceps a little larger than them would work well too as they get 5', but are skinny as hell, and all mouth so be carefull.

great info there man... i'm calling u the cool cat from now on! :headbang2 hehe! yeah i agree with the large variety of cats capable of 'growing' and the hardship a fish keeper must endure to at least spot one in lfs. but i think i have connections good enough to get me one. hehehe.

i have a 2++ foot ired shark reserved for me at the moment. but i'm really contemplating. my rtc is just about 6-8" less than 2 months from 2"... would the shark try to eat this? btw, is about 1,200 pesos ( more or less 23$) worth the huge shark? i've been to bangkok and (if they are really ireds) they are really common there. their sizes are also huuuuge. you get to feed em if you take a boat ride down their huge river.

great info on the jau. and nice to know someone actually keeps em! hehehe! am i right to say ur one of the few owners of these monsters? never knew they'd grow slower than the rtc tho... thought they'd grow at pretty much the same rate. how big is urs? hehehe...

the yarelli is... SCARY!!!! just plain scary! if ever i get my hands on one. i'd put it in a seperate tank!
