Just wondering if anyone has used Cermedia especially the 8x8x4 blocks. I need to buy all new media for my 3 AC110s and instead of biomax I was thinking of giving it a try. Looks like one block cost $60 and I can split it between 2 AC110s. Otherwise I will just buy 5-6 boxes of biomax to dump into them.

It costs a lot more but I am curious about the claims of nitrate reduction. I found a lot of folks saying it reduced nitrates. Not sure if the media will really work with something like an AC110 though.

Nitrate reduction requires anoxic bacterial growth. That comes from incredibly low to no oxygen levels, which cannot easily be achieved in a conventional filter. An AC100 would be near impossible to replicate these conditions with.

If it were me, I would save the money and get any ceramic media because as you describe it being used, it is just surface area. One will not have an advantage over the other to justify the difference in price.

UnstoppableJayD UnstoppableJayD do you use this media? Digging through old posts I saw you recommending it. Thanks!

Would love to have some, but cant justify the price(I fell for the whole eheim coco puffs craze back in the day, and find it seems no better than potscrubs and matrix to me). Also, don't believe the HYPE about denitrification, it would take a lot of the media, with very very low flow rate ~25-50gph for 6+months probably to truly make a dent in nitrate consumption.

My opinion only, YMMV...

Well I decided to take the plunge and by some. I bought the 8x4x4 block and will stick it inside the tank itself for now. I will then figure out if I want to cut it in half and stick it inside two of the ac110s.
