Hey guys-

I'm doing some research on chamelions and their habitat. I want to look at some diy cages so I can build one for myself.

I have this corner cabinet that would be awesome for some herps but it's sliding glass and wood and from what I know about the veiled chamelion that I want is that he needs the air. Grrr, all I've ever kept are snakes and arid creatures.

I want to make his home special and correct so that he can flourish. I haven't bought one yet either but it's at the reptile store now waiting for me if I want him.

any advice or diy links would be great
blue skies, blue waters, green trees

I dont know what chamelions are but I do love chameleons and have owned a veiled and plan on getting a panther chameleon soon

Chameleons :P

I also have an old corner/China cabinet I've been considering turning into a Chameleon Vivarium! Small world...

Chams are a pain as they need both high humidity and fresh air. Not the easiest combination to create... My theoretical solution is to have a shallow pool with Under Tank Heat beneath it. This creates the humidity...

Next would be to install a small fan that pulls air in from outside the the enclosure and blows it inside. When doing this be catious though, as air is blown in, air must be able to move out. Now keep in mind this is going to be warm moist air, which if not blown into a controlled space will quickly cause a mold issue.

It is very possible to do what you are considering, just be sure to slowly and meticulously consider every detail to best design it. Don't hesitate to creat mock make ups to test run ideas and trouble shoot for unexpected issues. It will probably take a few redesigns, but it's quite realistic you will eventually get it right.

Thanks Toby-
I heard Chameleons are tough.
That's actually what I was thinking about doing! Circling out several vents and screening them on the top and sides. Drylocking and decorating the inside with vines and vegetation. Adding a small fan to circulate air and possibly a small sonic fogger near the top or a waterfall feature. I'm still going to pick up a screened cage from DIY to get started but the cool one will be the vivarium I build. Will you let me know how yours turns out?

I just got this huge lecture from this guy about Veiled CHAMELEONS (I got it right spelling police) from a guy at the pet store here in town and I don't want it to get me down .. I also don't want to be so stubborn I give the right pet a wrong home.
Thanks

chameleons arnt hard if you get a good captive bred one, for humidity the best thing you can do is just buy a misting system
the other part is that they need lots of plants to hide in, preferibly live
and another is to keep them well fed on a good schedual and if you don`t they could get mad and go off of food

Chris Anderson used to post on here from time to time. He is the closest thing to a chameleon expert we have. I know he just went to Cameroon to study them in their natural habitat so you may want to send him a message.
