any i can keep in there for life? im guessing no. let me know my options, thanks.

Nope, unless you can get ahold of intermedia(no one can get ahold of them yet) Your best bet is to:

A: Plan on an upgrade in a year or year and a half at best
B: Not get them if you don't plan on A:

thanks for the quick reply. ill just take option B until i get a larger tank. thanks again. :D

No problem. I don't want to discourage you. You can always grow them out(although it can be a pain to get rid of them) but all sp. available now get over 24" .

no discouragement here man. i knew most species got over 24" i just thought there might be some dwarf strains from SA i havent heard about. :headbang2

No cichla are good for life in a 125.... Even intermedia will get to 20"... Still too big for a 125....

By 2"...

Kidding. Thought they got more like 12". Sorry I was wrong. No cichla at all then. Even the impossible to get.

so how big of a tank for about 4 cichlas? i like Orinocensis best but wouldnt mind a mixed tank.

I'd say 400+...
