Any clue as to what this is?

It's a Polypterus weeksi!

I'm astonished that he has no external gills at this size - must be caused by bad oxygene conditions during his long way from Africa. In this case polypterids do regress their external gills.
I'm also keeping a weeksi (same size, with well-developed external gills) - great fish!

It looks like a very nice specimen also.
 
He does have a big ol' head. He will grow into it :)
 
It's one of the more uncommon species of bichirs and is not so often imported in US and Europe.
Not as rare as ansorgii, bichir or teugelsi but rare enough ...
 
yup weeksii. it's not rare, but not too common either. you don't see them much at LFS in the US, but usually you wouldn't have much trouble finding them from online sellers that deal with bichirs.
