Have a 2 1/2 year old dempsey and was wondering if there is any way to tell a male from a female?
Any dempsey scecialists?

pointed anal fins boy if its 2 years old it should be mature and u should be able to see its egg shoot if its a girl a pic would be nice
Will put some pics in soon. Have 2 decent ones (he/she is not easy to get a good picture of) but have them on my phone and for some reason it's not letting me pix message right now. Yesterday thought it was because of everyone calling for New Years but now don't know!!! Will let you know when I have accomplished this-why is it that the simple things have to be so difficult sometimes......
you can always tell by the gill plate. the male will have an area with out speckles( usualy shaped in a circle) the female will have bright blue spleckling concentrated on the gill plate
also both male and female dempsy have red on the edge of there fins

Has the pointed anal fin and the open area (definitely not speckled) on his gills. Really with I had pictures I could share right now...... Will try again tomorrow and if so, will let you know. He really is a great fish. I think he's one of the smarter ones I have. Constantly aware of his surroundings, oh, for got to mention that he LOVES to did!!! Use to fix the stones in his tank but quicky realized that it's a complete waste of my time.....
