So I really like this setup for keeping some bettas, but I don't like the $140+ price tag. Anybody got ideas for a DIY setup? Basically looking for a long, low and narrow tank which I can divide into multiple sections.

Anybody know of anything else commercially available like this? Even if it's an empty tank, I can add the dividers myself.

Thanks!

My other option at this point is the Mr. Aqua MA-730 tank which is $68. Measures 35x8x9. I would need to add some dividers myself. And it's glass. I do like the idea of acrylic better so I can drill easier if need be.

I've never sourced them because they look impractical but
I know they sell some 'novelty' bookshelf and wall mount tanks
that are really long and really shallow

Yeah they are impractical really. If I only I could get lucky and find some from a LFS that was going out of business

If the dimensions on that are what I think they are (about 6X6X48 inches), then you could make it with picture framing plexi, which you can probably get in the necessary widths for next to nothing from a frame shop. They just throw away leftover pieces that are that narrow.

I'm guessing from your many DIY projects that you have a decent set of tools. A circular or chop saw, a router, and some corner clamps would allow you to build a couple of divided tanks from this stuff in an afternoon (longer if you don't have many clamps). Your biggest expense would be the solvent cement.

If you don't want to cut it yourself, the framing shop might do that too. I don't know what they'd charge, but it might be worth the savings in time and having to clean acrylic goo off your sawblade every few seconds.
