Any DIY pond decor/fake plant ideas???

My pond is in the sun most all day. I would like some floating plants (fake) to give the fish some place to get out of the sun but don't want to spend much $$$. I know I can buy live plants, but I want some shade for them year round as the real plants will die in the winter. Any ideas???
