Any drawbacks on a 46 gallon bow?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The drawback is that Its not 1000 gallons! I like the bowfronts.

Great looking tanks. Especially as aa show piece for the living room. Better looking than the rectangle tanks. What kind of filtration are you going to have for that tank?

The tank is used and only a year old. The only problem is that is was set up previous for salt water. Is that ok if i want to run fresh water?

Yes it is fine. I have done exactly the same thing, I was given a 46g bowfront that was used for salt. This one had been left to dry, and was covered in some hard green and yellow stuff. I soaked it in vinegar water for 3 days, and then scraped it off with a glass scraper. It looks brand new and I haven't had any problems with it. I thought it was kind of stupid when I heard about it, and that it would make things look distorted but its very nice.

So even if it was used as a salt water tank it'll be ok to convert to fresh water. Do I need to do anything special to clean it? Also, is a Fluval 304 filter big enough for this tank?

That should be a good filter for it! Alot of people are gonna say you need more. Id say you only need extra if your gonna stock the crap out of it. Nothing new necessary to convert to freshwater just clean up nice like you would any new tank (vinegar soak ) Freshwater wash then dry it up nice. It will look cool you will like it.
