Any effect on 8.8 PH ?

Didn't bother on testing for GH.

Any short and long term effect ?

Should be fine as long as its stable. Dont try to mess with it.

I am not doubting you in anyway, but I have not heard of any fish living in 19 DKH environment.

I know they can handle the PH, but that hardness ? it's almost a liquid calcium...

My kh is 14-16 (depends) and my Discus have been thriving all year in it. Along with my other 20 tank fulls of fish.

The urine that rays produce is pretty much pure ammonia, which eats away at your KH and GH since your PH is that high it should be pretty stable. So i would expect your PH to drop a little.

Exactly what my though on how to solve it...add more bio load = more bio bacteria = consume more minerals..

also remember ammonia is more toxic at high PH

With a matured filter system, the KH will gradually goes down. NH3 --> NO2 -->NO3, during the process of converting NO2 to NO3 the by-product is Nitric acid that will react on your KH.

Just leave it as it is, dont mess with it anymore, dont bother adding more bioload.
