Wanted to know if anyone else on this forum used fly gear. i'm new at it (1.5 years) and have had very little sucess but still love it.

I've been flyfishing for about 10-11 years, started when I was about 12. It takes a lot of practice, but its worth it in the end! I still have tons to learn, but that's half the fun.

I couldn't agree more. Fly fishing is such a unique experience. I love that you fight more the fish and less of the gears drag. Had some luck out west about 9 months ago, caught 5 pinks in the river. I just wish I had more oppertunities to go out and advice for the smaller rivers around my hometown.

I have flyfished before and have a setup as well. I wouldnt consider myself a fly fisherman because most of what i catch are on light tackle spinning and conventional gear but i do enjoy fly fishing for peacock bass more than anything!

I've been doing it and tying my own flys for about 13 years now. No looking back, hardly use spinning gear any more now a days.

Just started last yr. A friend of mine made me a rod and told me its time to learn to fly fish. Im not that good at it but find it to be so much more. The feeling you get when you catch a fish on a fly you tie yourself. Very enjoyable sport

Fly fishing is the most satisfying way to catch a fish. I live in Tahoe and fish 200+ days a year between the small tributaries, big rivers like the truckee, little tail waters like the East walker, and monster cutthroats in Pyramid lake all winter i get to fish a lot of different types of water. We even get out and fish for carp in the 10-20 pound range in some pretty ugly ponds. I have only been fly fishing the last four years but have really put a lot of time on the water. I read a lot the first year, but it wasn't until i started fishing with some guys that work at the local fly shop that I started putting to practice all that I have read. I was lucky enough to fish with these guys without have to pay for much more than a couple of beers. Read as much as you can and save up for a day on the water with a guide. I still learn something every time I fish with these guys.

Hello; Been flyfishing since the early 80's. Tie my own. No trout within a reasonable distance, so I tie a blue deer hair floating fly on a #10 hook and go for panfish. (From time to time get a nice bass.)

I also have been using either barbless hooks or bending down the barbs the last decade or so. Lose over half the fish that take a fly, but it is so much easier to release a fish and usually without injury. It also is some what more satisfying when I do manage to land a nice fish.

I fly fish but so far I haven't caught anything in the amazon with it.:irked:
