Hey guys,

Some may know that I have a voltains lionfish (4-5in) in my 20 gallon quarantine. He's been in their for at least a week or two. I finally got him to eat frozen krill and some silverside on an acrylic stick (any other ideas will be appreciated lol). I didn't realize how beautiful this fish is, especially on their fin length and coloration. Well now it comes down to what fish can "co-exist" with a lion-fish.

I'm more worried of the lionfish being harassed/fin nipped by other fish.

In the main tank their is a snowflake eel (12in or so), neon dotty-back (4 inch...i know he isn't safe here lol), yellow striped maroon clownfish (3-4inch) and my all time favorite male blue throat trigger (4in).

I've been told the only fish in here that may nip the fins of the lion fish is the trigger.

Well my real question is mainly towards lionfish owners, What are your lion-fish's tank-mates?

Pictures would also be cool....

Niger trigger.... Porcupine puffer.... Wrasse...... Snowflake eel.....
All are good.. I had them with my Lionfish years ago.

...dam....I had given my porcupine away because I was told that they sometimes are curious about the fins....don't blame them lol if I seen a lion-fish I'll be like "Pretty Colors....gotta Touch"

So many things depend on the individual fish and the situation. People give advice based on what they have heard, and unfortunately less commonly sometimes, their personal experience.

This being said I have had bad experiences with lions being bullied.

Everything is different. No one is wrong or right until they come back with the evidence. I have evidence that even groupers will pick on lions to death. So that makes me a little cautious around the "nippier" SW fish.

I had a Hawaiin Black Trigger around 4" kill my Volatin Lion around 7" a few weeks ago. After the trigger was done with the lion, he started going after some other fish so I just got rid of him. They were fine for around 3-4 months. I have a 150G Fish Only tank.

yea first "gotta touch" then "gotta go to the hospital"

This lion has been with triggers, puffers, groupers, eels, sharks and just about everything else. No one ever would dare to touch him. He bites the green moray when he gets to close and also chases him with spines. In my video in my last thread you can see him eating 2nd in the tank and revealing his spines while laying upside down protecting his food.

I don't know where people get all this talk about them being such wussies. Mine is a brute.

Trial and error, I have my lion with four triggers at one time. That tank was ridiculous.

I can see how they could get picked on, but it's just not always going to happen. Feed your trigger till its full, then add lion into tank. Keep all fish happy and keep temp down a little to help reduce aggression.

Yea I was gonna say thecanuck or ashlee which ever one owns the tank. Has proved that some fish only work together based on personality.

Epic, your pics canuck are always the best, btw the lion already owns the tank lol He still stays in the back of the tank during light hours. Also now i just dump some krill and silversides and he goes after them no problem. My snowflake eel is more active now lol....wish he was as big as your moray!

Just be ready to jump into action...it doesnt take much for them to go from "bullied" to destroyed. My grouper just decided to take it to another level one night.
