wondering if anyone here is well versed in giraffe cats... i have one myself and hes doing ok but really not eating alot. Just seems content with getting by. Hides most of the time and acts like a sissy. Any specific water perams? Best food for him to eat? He only seems to want to eat beef heart really and ocasionally some shrimp pellets. Ive read that they are not picky and eat like hogs , so im really frustrated. Ive had the fish for about 6 months.

how big is he? What are your water params? What are his tank mates?

What all have you tried to get him to eat??

Mine eats cichlid pellots, fd krill, blood worms, flake food, earthworms, brine shrimp, sinking catfish pellots,

doesnt like beef heart, tubifex, or feeders.

hes about six inches his tank mates include 1 rtc foot long. 1 albino channel cat 9 inches. and 5 feeder comets that lived too long and now are between 5 and 6 inches long. The feeders eat more food than all the fish in my tank. The water perams are good on amonia nitrite and nitrate. The water ph is fairly high though due to living near a lime stone quary. One more question what is their growth rate??

the growth rate is roughly 1-2" a month. Ive had mine since he was 4 or 5 inches and is now 14". And im coming up on a year now with mine.

One thing you could try to do it just starve him. Not give him beefheart. only give him food that you want him to eat. Or you can soak the food you want him to eat with the beefheart and try and trick him. Slowly but surely he will come around and turn into the vaccum that all giraffe cats turn in to.

ok ill try it out thanks . yeah i see your cat in the avatar thats really nice wish mine was growing fast

he will dont worry about it. he'll come around, and if he doesnt im always here to help where i can.

good luck

i never had any problems with getting mine to eat, but the previous owner probably had it starved. it'll eat anything i give it now. loves nightcrawlers, the hog even "slirps" them out of my hand
