I know these aren't "monster" fish but i really love them and I would love to keep some so I have a few questions on them. About how big do they get, and how many would I be able to keep in a 35g or would that tank size be out of the question for the number of them I would need to have to make them happy because the guy at my LFS said they were schooling fish.

i used to want some but you need a school, I think that they only grow to like 3-4 inches not very big

i kept an albino glass catfish until he was about 10 inches long. best buddies with a tsn of the same size until one day oscar decided to attack and kill him

They car reach up to 6" and the bigger the school the more active they will be. You will have probably have a small group of 4-6, in this case they will need plants and possibly a cave to seek refuge in. They eat any thing with a strong smell and nutritional value.

I agree!

They like rock caves and must be in a group. you could keep about 4 in a 35, but what else do you want to put in the tank?

grow under 7 inches and like swimming space and caves. I had a beautiful one before my leporinus killed it. The ID sharks nibbled on it.

Agreed with all the comments above. i used to have a 55gallon JUST for these guys, i gatta find you those pic's!!! I had 7, they fed on flakes, and blood worms. i tried frozen blood worms but for some reason they wouldt "sense" it. One by one they died, when the 4th year came. after researching they don't have long lives. up to 3 years+ give or take. There really enjoyable!!!!

Tank design is key with them... you need them to be comfortable but still be visible. When you add a few to a large community tank, the 2" ones tend to disappear because they don't necessarily catch peoples eyes as much as brightly colored fish
