Hey MFK'ers

I have been doing some research lately into getting a new snake. I was looking at a Boa Constrictor. I am not looking for anything fancy just either a nice pure guyana or suriname. I am doing my research, and have handled and worked with some larger snakes so I am not just jumping on something that can potentially reach 8+ feet. Any info on some good breeders out there would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. :)

Go to redtailboa.net. There you will find all the info you are looking for as well as find a couple of the better breeders of the two snakes you are thinking of.

IMO you would be better off to start with a common or Columbian Boa first to gain some experience as the Guyanas and Suri's need more specialized care. Culumbian Boas are pretty much a bullet proof snake, they get big, are gerally very tame and can be had in some killer morphs.

I'm not interested in a columbian, just a nice suriname or guyana. I'm doing as much research as I can, and I understand the differences in the localities.

I am a huge fan of using specialized user forums to gain insight in both practical care as well as locating suppliers/breeders... MFK is exactly that resource for Monster Fish, and while we have a solid handful of well experienced reptile people, I think you will get a broader range of solid experience at a reptile, snake or Boa forum...

I'm not real familiar with RedTailBoa.net but I have heard a couple of my 'Boa friends' mention it. It's definitely a resource worth looking into...

I am a (somewhat) active member of FaunaClassifieds.com and I know a few 'Boa people' there. I'm confident that asking the same question on that site would get you some solid direction.

My first impression was to push you toward a different species, but your list of animals (signature) and response to the above suggestion gives me the impression this is a well thought out decision. Best of luck on finding what you are looking for and definitely let us know what you find!

You can easily find either locality on Kingsnake classifieds.
I found some really nice Guyanas a couple days ago for $199.
