Hey, I'm new to the site and wanted to know some good places to find some fish. I wanted to find some nice Polypterus' besides albino, regular and Ornatipinnis. I heard Toyin sells fish, but I wanted to go check some out live before I got into buying online. Anyone know any good stores to check out? I went around China Town and called up some places in Flushing, but all anyone seems to carry are the regular ones, albinos, or ornatipinnis. 38th and 3rd had 2 Polypterus', but they were already kind of big, I wanted to try and find smaller ones to match mine which is maybe around 4" right now. Thanks for any info.

In Elmhurst Queens there are alot of great stores, my two favorites are blue gold aquarium, and golden aquarium. they are about 7 minutes from each other and def worth a visit.

i honestly hope that place has cleaned up since i was there last year. they had a good portion of their tanks with either sick, dying, or dead and rotting fish in them. Fish you could tell were dead for more than just a day, and some of the absolute sickest looking fish ive ever seen. and their prices were BEYOND absurd. $200 for a teacup stingray, and over $50 for a regular 2-3" oscar or a parrot fish, or somewhere in that ballpark.

ill give to them the guy said they had just recently opened there, but still. kudos to them if they actually did clean up, but that would be the biggest improvement ive ever seen at a LFS if so.

Yeah I went down to Elizabeth the other day and 38th street. Both had some nice selections, but not many Polypterus'. I'll give the other places a call and check em out too. Thanks for the info guys.

Nope! They haven't cleaned up at all. Call me what you like, but I have contemplated on many occasions to buy that guy at the front counter a toupe :nilly: jk.

Your best bet is Shark Aquarium in Jersey. I haven't seen anything other than the ones you mentioned in nyc for some time. You can try Fish Town USA on Francis Lewis Blvd, but I doubt they have what your looking for.

If your close to nj you could also stop by absolutely fish in clifton. The best times to stop by is when they get new stock. i stopped by yesturday and there stock was running lower than usual since the last stocking was like 4/3. But yeah if you have time to stop by in nj, definitely check absolutely fish out. And for Shark Aquarium, never been there but considering stopping by sometime.
