Any good tankmates for msle convict in 40 breeder?

Well of course you can try a female convict.
But with that aside here are some options:
1) school of tetras
2) swordtails
3) some other small-medium sized Central American or South American cichlids like rainbow cichlids or Electric Blue Acaras

I tried my con with my rainbow in a 20 long but it didn't work. Think it's worth another try in the bigger tank?
I would totally just get him a nice female. Breeding activities adds a whole new attraction to the aquarium and they are constantly going through different cycles. As far as fry go, just fast them from food for a couple days and they will probably eat them. You also could feed them too your other cichlid tanks if you have any. Convicts are awesome. I fully endorse convicts.

I agree that a female convict + dithers is the best way to go.
Most other cichlids that can go in a 40 wouldn’t hold up to convict aggression too well, especially an established male.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. I have 3 Molly's that I saved that we're feeder Molly's. I'm gonna move OJ my convict to my 36 bow front with them and build the 40 gallon breeder around my Rainbow Cichlid. More options with him.
