Hello again everybody.

On my 125 I have an FX5 and a Marineland Emperor 400. I want to make sure I'm getting the best results from the possible combinations of filter media, and I just wanted to know what you guys think I should put where.

I am currently running: FX5- [top to bottom] 1. Prefilter, 2. three packs of carbon, 3. biomax.

Emperor 400- I have some biomax in the plastic trays that comes with it, and some carbon filter pads in the other 2 slots.

Should I take the carbon out of my FX5 and have the 400 do the only carbon work?

Anybody find any great combos with your FX5's?

Thanks!

Hi, I have the same setup 1 fx5 and a emp400 on my fx5 i have all biomax. I put 3 boxes per tray hah so yea 9 boxes in my fx5. I currently have the carbon pads for the back section of the filter and in the trays i put carbon. (Those are just temporary though because i don't really need carbon). I'm planning on buying blue filter pads for mechanical and might stuff some scrubbies or more blue pads. (Basically removing the carbon pads and tray). My waters pretty crispy looking which you can see near the last pages in the crispy tank thread.

FX - 3 media basket fill with bio max

Dechril- Where are you going to put the blue filter pads? In the FX5? And geez I don't know if I want to buy that much biomax haha.

Your best results will probably come from running carbon as needed, and not 100% of the time. In this same vein, you'll find it easier to run carbon where you can easily get to it (the Marineland), and the majority of the bio media in the FX5. You'll certainly need to account for mechanical filtration in the FX5 as well, so don't leave it out.

I haven't purchased the pads yet hah but i'm planning on putting the pads into the emp400 where the usual pad w/carbon trays usually go. debating on either stuffing scrubbies into the other tray section of the emp400 or just putting another blue pad. I'll try both, but most likely gonna stay with 2 blue pads and let the emp400 do all the mech and fx5 for the bio.

And yeah 90 dollars worth of biomax for 1 filter! Kinda expensive haha and in my fluval 404/402 i have even more! Geez never even thought about adding the price up for all the biomax i've purchased hmph hah.

Yeah that's a good recommendation actually. Mechanical in one and bio in the other. So maybe the filter pads with carbon, and some sort of scrubbies in the 400.

Well i'm actually planning on removing the pads with carbon since i dont need the carbon hah. If you read more into carbon you'll find that your most likely not going to need it (well it depends i'm not saying your absolutely not going to need it) Going mech and bio is what most people on the forum use anyways haha you'll find tons of filtration media threads and most recommend what i said before...biomax biomax biomax scrubbies biomax. :grinno::grinno::grinno:
