Getting a new tank, and I'm going to have the stand be at least 36" tall.

The tank has a center rear overflow, and 4 holes in the back pane for returns. I have a dolphin amp master 3900 external pump. The thing is, I'm making my own sump.

Does anyone have any ideas of how I can go about this? Rubbermaid sump with a bulkhead in the wall? I need a lid on it whatever I do. Can I drill a 40 or 55 gallon glass tank with a saw bit? I've heard not to drill tempered glass.

Any good threads on home made stuff with external pumps?

Thanks again!

...might be a new surprise coming your way here shortly ; )

LOL swiss cheese. I like that! What size should I make my sump out of? Trying to not go broke on filtration. The tanks a 300g. 55 gallon sump?

A 55 will be fine but they may be tempered and you cannot drill. Most likely the bottom is tempered but the sides are fine at least on my 55's. There's a list somewhere on the most common tempered tank sizes and most are labeled if they are tempered.

What I would do for an external pump is look for a used acrylic tank in the 55 gallon or larger size. They are easy to drill with a wood hole saw. I have 2 acrylic 55 sumps on my 450 and one on my 360. Love em!

If you have access to a glass hole saw then drill away. Glass 55's are cheap on CL right now.

Good luck!

On my way home with my 300 acrylic 96x30x24 : ) stand anf filtration will be worked on.
