Just so you know, I have a red devil named Mr. Bighead he is about four years old and I have kept him since he was just a little fry. For about one year I had no place to put his tank so I kept him at my mothers house (A smoking house). He seemed to get sickly colored and slower not as interactive.(I think he was sick because of the smoke?) As soon as I could I got an apartment and moved him back in with me. He seems to have regained his speed and aggression but I can’t get that great yellow color back in him? If anyone knows how to revitalize his color without changing his diet (because he’s so picky) Please let me know. I am also looking for more live and fresh food ideas for these large aggressive fish. Any Ideas?
(As you should know I am new here, this is my first Thread and I don't know anybody yet but I love the tons of info I have received so far! Thanks to all):headbang2:confused:

Sometimes certain foods will make his color come back. Also, regular water changes and make sure he is getting some oxygen. They don't always need an aerator but if hes been stressed out, air will help. Any sea-salt? It helps with stress also. Seems like your RD is stressed or sick. I could be wrong though.

Enviromental changes or water chem changes will both cause color changes.
Along with breeding cycle.....

Mine change with different colored backgrounds and lights.

Try changing your bulbs & background.

Good food with color boosters don't hurt ;)

Here are mine with different set-ups....

Maybe he is just getting old he seems better now that he's with me. What would sea salt do for him if he's fresh water? Just wanted to add Your monster fish are awesome!
