It started out with a growth,or something, on his left eye and was quarentined ASAP.The growth shrunk and now he has these things along the dorsal fin ,around the gill area and left eye. They almost look like the grubs or worms found in some pan fish here in Wisconsin. He dosn't really act sick ,he eats and fins are not all folded in ,but these marks are ugly and i'd like to know how to treat them if possibly.Like i said they look like grubs or maybe zits/acne.Here are some pics to look at.Thank You for any advice/help.

Looks like bacterial infection to me. This is a very common occurrence around the hobby and is contagious. If you have a spare tank, isolate the fish and treat with antibacterial meds such as Binox or Maracyn.

Thanks for the reply Lupin.I have kept cichlids for 14-16 years and have had very few sick fish in this time. But when one does get sick i quarantine it ASAP!However I am new to the concept of fish disscusion on the web ,didn't relize there were so many fish lovers out there:),actually found this site by accident.Again thanks for the info, will pick up some antibacterial meds tonight.

Thanks again Lupin,i'm glad i found you guys to.I didn't find the two you listed, Binox or Maracyn. I did find Melafix Antibacterial Fish Remedy , is this stuff any good . About the only diseases/sickness i have had to deal with in the past is ich and HITH or HLLE.Anyway I treated the fish (Nici) tonight after work ,hope this stuff is good meds and clears this up.I hate it when one of my fish is sick.

P.S. one reason to be happy I found this site is to prove I'm sane after all:).I always got wierd looks and laughed at ,even called crazy, when people found out that I named my fish, glad to see i'm not the only one.Humm, here's a scary thought, maybe it just proves we are all crazy:).

Melafix can work for minor injuries but yours is a serious bacterial infection. Another med is needed. Look for Furan if available.
