I caught and released this lake trout this season through the ice. There has not been a lake trout stocking program in Lake george in quite some time but there has not been one caught that has looked anything like this before. I am new to this forum but stumbled upon it wil trying to figure out how this happened. Any info would be great. Thank You

Very interesting! The only thing i can think of why it's gold is the genes? Nice catch! definitely an awesome fish!!!

That is not a california golden trout. They are indigenous and Not planted from hatcheries.
Here's what they look like:

very rare color morph. every once in a while you'll see a largemouth bass caught this color, that'd be my dream. It'd be going in my livewell and i'd be off to purchase a tank big enough to keep it forever ;)

Its a color mutation, good you released now out had a chance to pass the trait on, though I imagine not many make it to that size.

some local places here in ohio stock golds. we even have them in our grocery stores. is that the same thing?

Lots of states stock golden trout in certain lakes but not LAKE trout. That is the first one I have ever seen. Its an awesome looking mac!
