I was going to set up a 265g tank with 1-2 silver aros, 1-2 f/s gars and i saw stingrays and i found these really cool, and i was wondering about like would these good tank mates for the gars and arowanas? And also what is the price range ive heard of a motoro ray and thought those were really cool, what is the price range and diet of those guys? What is the least expensive ray and why? What is the diet of rays? Lol sorry kinda new to rays

Please do lots of research before buying a ray. They are the hardest fresh water fish to keep. They will be fine one day and dead the next if you don't cater to there needs. Motoros are about $120 and up. Teacup (retic, laticep, orbignyi) are around $70 and up but these rays are hard to acclimate. Motoro is the easiest to keep but get large with age. That 265 will be too small in a couple of years. Gars work well with rays as long as they are spotted or florida gars as they stay smaller if you want another kind then you need a bigger tank. Aros are good with a large tank. They are aggressive eaters and get large fast. Not uncommon for them to get 30 inches in a couple of years.

Alright thanks i was hoping to get this tank way down the line i just wanna make all of the necessary research and such before i get it so the teacup rays are cheaper but harder to keep, and the montoro is the easiest to keep, but still really hard?

You should check out the stickies section and the amazon.com has lots of good FW stingray books :D

any specific question you should make a new post :D

Alright thanks miles you seem to know what you talking about looking on other forums that you posted on, i had one question though is that fish lice common on rays, and is there any way of avoiding getting rays with that on them?

Ah nah bro it's a hit or miss scenario.. If you get a healthy ray from a LFS you shouldn't have any problems. Internal parasites are the more likely problem. If you sift through the information theres hundreds of posts here in this forum.. you will find most everything yo need to know :D

If you want top notch rays hook up with www.h2ocustomaquatics.com because he has the best rays.. Start off with a pair of marble motoros you won't be disappointed.

getting them for a good suplier and they will treat them before you get them

Rays usually end up getting fish lice from goldfish that are either fed to rays or kept in the same water system with rays. The best way to get rid of them is to pick them off. I had a motoro with atleast 15 or more on it. I had to pick them off in two sessions because some are hard to see.
