I'm interested in price ranges and local central new york retailers of custom built aquarium tanks. I have a family member who is a very good carpenter and im sure he would be willing to build a stand for any size aquarium i could dream up , my question is how to get the aquarium itself made . My dream is a 1000 gallon aquarium built along the entire length of two of my basement walls, but where could i get the glass tank built and what would the cost of something that massive be?

You'll have to search out all the info. But some aquarium builders(most people that size go acrylic, but some tank builders may be able to build you glass):

Check with Not Just Fish (Forum Vendor), also look for Tenecor tanks(acrylic tanks) on the web, or look up something like www.glasscages.com (not everyone likes glass cages though).

IMO it will be hard to find someone local in NY to build the tank. Most manufactures ship though. Or you might look at building yourself a DIY plywood tank.

along two walls and in the basement.... sounds to me like it will have to be assembled in place.

if its going to be up against the walls theres no point in it being all glass or acyrlic. talk to you carpenter friend and see if he will help you build a plywood tank. then you can just seal it and throw on glass fronts

If your basement walls and floors don't move, use them as your walls and floor when feasable. Thats what I did and it worked great. Just a wood frame for the windows anchored into the concrete with female threaded anchors does the trick.

hmm...3 year old thread....
