^ I cannot seem to get a clear pic but it seems to be in the leptocephali stage (completely transparent, laterally compressed). It is roughly 2.5-3 inches long with a head the size of this font. Can anyone provide any insight into what these guys eat? All I could find were vague descriptions of scavenging off a 'paste' and organic debris or that they failed to ever eat and starved.

i've seen em scavenge leftover shrimp pellets from the substrate. may be worth a try.

Thank you, I'll leave a couple pellets in there and see what happens.
I don't know the species. He was accidentally caught when collecting grass shrimp with a dip net, didn't notice it until I had gotten back and released the shrimp into the QT. I would say he is an american eel, Anguilla rostrata, but was caught much further into the gulf of mexico than I see on range maps- so I have no clue?

Bit of an update-
I was never able to definitely determine if it actually ever ate anything, but it did seem like he had started to round out into a more eel-like shape. Unfortunately my roommate decided to 'help' and refill the four inches of water I had taken out. Without dechlor... Dunno if it was the drastic change in salinity, the chlorine, or if he actually did starve. Some of the shrimps kicked it too, so I'm guessing it was one of the former two.
