It's been a while since I have logged on here. I have been trying to find an electric blue jack dempsey. I found some out of town at a LFS and I was about to buy one when the lady told me that they were $110.00 each! I was looking at a small fish that was probably 3 inches long and thought "I don't think so!" Knowing how these little fish can sometimes be very difficult to raise I wasn't going to spend that much on one of them. Does anyone have any idea where I can find one at a reasonable price and any suggestions on how to make sure I can take care of it properly. I really hate to lose any of my fish. It makes me feel like I have failed them.

You should not have to pay anymore than $40 for an EBJD unless its and adult. More than that and you are getting ripped off. A LFS near me sells them for $30. As far as care goes its the same as most SA cichlids. Nothing Special. Where in MS are you from?
I'm in Vicksburg. The store I was going to buy them from was in Jackson. I already have the tank set up with SA cichlids so the EBJD should do fine in it.
Try looking online for one. Not too cold down there so you shouldnt have to worry too much about winter shipping. Im sure you could find one in the $20-$30 range.
I haven't purchased any fish online yet. I really like to see what I'm getting in person, so to speak. But I guess I can give that one a try. Thank you.
there was a place about forty-five minutes from me that had an adult pair for thirty. said they were rescued or something and they were probably the ugliest ebjd's i've ever seen. not color wise but they were horribly disfigured; hith, torn fins and the like. kind of feel bad i didn't pick them up at the time.
i have the same problem. i have a friend that works at my lfs so he ordered me some and when they came in they were $60 at less than an inch!!!!! theyre expensive on liveaquaria too!
