I am curious to find out what it is like to keep an invert, my only experience with them is basically childhood stuff like butterflies, moths, beetles. Now I have a yearly batch of mantids and some cleanup crew members for my Anole setups. I tried reading caresheets, and I am still sketchy about what I read.

What is it like keeping one? Why do you keep one? Are they demanding? Do they require large enclosures?

I have had tropical (giant) centipedes - lots of personality, just don't get too close. Do not need large enclosures. They live a long time too. Just keep them moist. Undemanding.

I have had a vinegaroon / Mastigoproctus / whip scorpion for two years now, so she is pretty old as she was adult when I got her. Full of personality as well, and very cool to watch.

Thanks! I was thinking of getting something to sit on my desk and look after it while I study or do paperworks. How big of an vivarium some of them need?

That does sound awesome. Even roaches are entertaining.

A 2.5 or 5.5 gallon tank is plenty for most of them.

Which would you suggest for a beginner? I know from my personality, I prefer active animals, so no stick bugs or mantids, and are not shy.

I don't mind starting an independent roach farm if the invert is a predatory.

I have scorpions and tarantulas, there good pets if you don't expect a whole lot of activity,if you want something active get a striped knee tarantula, those suckers can boogie:D

Nice looking Pandinus imperator, or did I get it wrong?

I am guessing by Striped Knee, you means Aphonopelma seemani? The common names for inverts get confusing. :nilly:

I read some scorpions and tarantulas will accept meat chunks. Is this caresheet fact true?

I keep scorpions, tarantulas, a centipede and roaches.

I've never heard of any that accepts meat chunks, hell mine won't even touch them if they are dead. :grinno:

i had a millipede

I have a cobalt blue that takes really small pinkies, but she is just plain mean anyway, LOVES to spray venom at you,lol
i'm pretty sure thats the species name for a striped knee

Very True:grinyes:
