im about to get my retic today. any last minute advice? i have everything ready. i guess i have 1 question. that is, i have 2 12'' airstones. shoulde they be takin out? i have some broken pots (madesure no sharp edges) that sit over the wands. other than that i have a round piece of drift wood that stands up and 2 small round river stones. got my sand in last night. all my levels are at 0. im pumped!!!

My advice would be not to get a retic....

Is the tank cycled? if so, how did you do it? All levels should not be at zero.. you should be getting a reading on nitrate, even if it is only a tiny amount.. Ammonia and nitrite should be zero though.

Sand or any deco is probely not the best idea if this is your first ray... id stick with the air stones, and the piece of wood, but thats it.

Good luck and enjoy your rays.... anything you need just ask here,
and don't forget to get picture for us :D

You JUST added sand?? I wouldn't add a ray for awhile. Everything reading zero suggests a new tank not ready for the biological load of a ray.

make sure you see it feeding before you buy it

just because the seller tells you its feeding doesnt mean it is

Making sure you watch it feed is extremely important. I bought a reticulated stingray for a LFS and they told me it just ate so I couldn't see it feed and when I got it home it wouldn't eat for a few days. I tried every type of food I could think of and it didn't make it.

I was concerend by the "just added sand" and all readings at Zero. (obviously not PH)

You need to make sure that the tank is cycled and has done so with some bio load on it.

Make sure you are regularly checking PH, Ammonia, Nitrite and Nitrate. Keep up the testing for every day for atleast 2 / 3 weeks if this is a new tank and then at least weekly from then on.

If you are getting readings then come back and ask what to do.

I hope this all helps and you are succesful.

Dont forget to post some pics and let us know tank size and filtration.:D
