Ive had my 29 gallon tank ( 1st one !) running and inhabitated a few months now. I clean it once a week, vacuumed and water changed 5 gal at a time, the temp is steady at 78, but i cant seem to get it unclouded. Ive got black gravel that is quickly losing its look and while occasionally it will clear up for a day or two, it typically stays rather cloudy. Anyone experience problems with the black dyed gravel, or have another cause ? Thanks folks !!!!

What kind of filtration do you have on your 29g tank? How many fish?

Not adequate filtration. your bacteria isnt colonizing its dying off in large numbers, hints the cloudyness. get some biologial media in a larger filter. Your tank needs to cycle through for a month or two with a few hardy fish. Danios are great for cycling! keep up with your 20 to 25% water changes weekly. get some stability, Bio-Spira, or even Stress Zyme to jump start and aid in the colonization on your nitrafying bacteria.

Thanks for the response ! I the tetra whisper ex 30 gallon on there for my mechanical, but as for bacteria ive been having trouble building it up. I have a school of 6 tiger barbs that have been doing well for about 2 months, 3 little corys, and one syno about 3-4" long. The ammonia dropped down a month ago but the nitrites have stayed high. Im not familiar with the products listed, but ill be checking them out for sure. will the bacteria drop my nitrite level as well ? Thanks !!!

More filtation is required, Try an emperor 280.

In my many years of experience I have used many types and brands of HOB and canister filtes.. IMHO, bio-wheels are the best filters made.. They add an extra feature that provides clear water.. Many people use AC110, which is also good and reliable, but does not have a bio-wheel.. The advantages over-weigh any disadvantages you or others may have, I strongly suggest you getting one.. Doctor foster and smith sale them for dirt cheap, about 1/2 or 1/3 the cost at LFS.

My pleasure!
