Just wondering. Loaches are my favorite type of fish, and I am interested to know if any related species are on our side of the world.

Thanks for disappointing me and smashing my thread into oblivion.

Thanks guys, I am a NANFA member and the loach site is great.

Loahces are only native to Asia. There are a few invasive species however such as dojo/weather loaches in the great lakes region.

Logperch don't really look like loaches, but they are bottom dwellers and they are a cool fish.

Grab a Peterson's Guide and flip through it to find a fish you love. Maybe you can find a loach clone.

The closest thing, IMO, that I've seen to a loach are northern hogsuckers.
We had a couple 6 inchers in our tank until for some reason our green sunfish took a disliking to them (only fish they've had a problem with) and decided to rip them apart.
They wiggle back and forth and use their mouth to sift through gravel, plus their swimming style and interactions with each other seem pretty loach-like.
