I am moving across town and have to move the tank and the stock. I have only moved live stock once and it was just a 75 and the fish weren't very large. This time, my fish include a nearly 2 foot fire eel, foot long royal knife, and a 10 inch L330, and others.

Any tips and making this a smooth transition? I would hate to lose any of them, especially the eel. I am thinking the fish will be out of the tank a max 4 hours. I am only moving 10 minutes away.

Thanks for your help.

Lots of rubbermaid containers are helpful. Remember you have to keep your filters living as well as the fish. Personally I have a 150g rubbermaid container just for this type stuff. Have yet to use it myself but it has come in handy for other MFKers.

You should move the tank and stand first. So you will need to take the water and fishes out first. There should be an air pump running in the container where the fishes are. You can you use the sturdy industrial garbage cans from HomeDepot. They can be rinsed off, dried, and returned afterward. You should only fill the cans about half when transporting because the water will splash around if it is too full. Having a lid on the cans will help too. You want to save about 2/3 of the water. Some fishes can handle more new water but it really depend on the fishes. It should be understood you will need a pump and enough hose to reach the tank from where the truck will be parked at the new place. Of course you should put the make up water in first and condition it before pumping the old water in. As long as the tank water is slightly warmer than the water the fishes are in, it will be fine. Good Luck.
