Any Musky Keepers

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
They are capable, but you need a big enclosure. params would be just like any other esox species. In my experience thus far esox tend to be tough fish in general. I have redfin pickerel and they are forgiving when it comes to water and tank params within reason.

Musky are a HUGE coldwater fish. Exceeding 50" EASY. I can't really imagine any tank that could house one of these monsters. I know it'd have to be something in size similar to the tanks at bass pro that hold muskies. You'd also need to create HUGE current, I mean something that'd you'd have trouble swimming in. And if you don't mind fishing every day or buying whole market fish (live) to feed them. I really wouldn't recommend getting a musky... If you want a predatory fish get a gar, they only max out at 30" and don't require HUGE fish to feed them with. And they also won't eat any tank mates they can't swallow.

Only thing I disagree with is the current. Muskies don't NEED current. I've found them in lakes, ponds, streams, and fast moving rivers, they are a versatile fish.

Well, I guess but I've personally always caught them in water with a considerable amount of current. Plus they'll need it to keep the water from heating up. Unless there's a better way to chill the water. I've even had musky steal 2lb white bass off of my rope XD they're agressive buggers.

You more than likely did not, as bass pro and cabelas both removed the musky and flathead catfish from a lot of their stores' displays due to high predation of the other species in the tanks. Muskies are highly aggressive, fearless of humans to a high degree, and will eat just about anything they feel they can wrangle lol. Amazing fish, and if I had a pond on my land I'd dedicate the entire thing to a musky or two, but my honest suggestion is if you want something like a musky to get a chain pickerel. They get on the larger size, but not anywhere near as big as a musky or pike, and they have similar behavior.
