Hey Everybody,

Im pretty sure thier is a bunch of us new yorkers on here who go fishing. Well when I think of fishing in New York I think of only Blue Fish and Stripe Bass.

I know thier is a lot of freshwater fish...

Are thier any beaches where fishing is tolerated? Any good spots? Also what kinds of fish are out now because my cousin (Where all under 18, so license isn't needed I think) and we all like to fish. I go on my uncle's boat where we catch stripes and blues..and a week ago where my cousin caught a 4 foot DOG FISH!!! That was my first shark I've seen on a boat..I have a picture of it. When my mac is fix I'll post it.

Well like I said above, any good beaches to fish, what to fish, baits...Im trying to avoid going on a charter boat because last year we spent (Family Spent) nearly $500 on riptide boat....we only caught a cold!

Also Fish that I know are in New York:

Stripe Bass
Sea Robins
Blue Fish
Fluke
Porgies
Dog Fish (Didn't know their were sharks in New York Lol)
...........thats it cause that's all I catch lol don't know what else is out thier.

Last but not least, this thread corresponds with my other thread of fishing in port st lucie....when these cousins go back to florida I will be going with them in hope to finally catch my first shark!....and then see family of coarse.

you can fish the grand majority of long island beaches. jones beach has a good pier to fish from and like most other beaches it has a designated surf fishing area. As for bait you could use fresh bunker, clams, spearing, and live eels if you're up for it. Plugs are also a good choice to use in surf but its a little harder than just casting and waiting.
this is a good link on LI beaches and spots to fish at, http://www.striperonline.com/li_fishing_spots.htm.
