I would be getting a baby black aro, no more than 5 or so inches. I raised a silver and did a very good job with him (Raised him from 3 inches) so I'm pretty familiar with aros. Are blacks more sensitive to water quality? The fish would spend at least its first 6 months as the sole resident of a 220 gallon tank. After that, I might add a motoro. The tank will be jump-proofed to absurd proportions. Water changes might be a little sporadic, There might be points where there would be a week and a half between WCs while it is young. The tank has an established biofilter that was supporting a 26.5 inch arowana extremely well. Feedings would be once a day consistently, twice a day while the fish is small.

Will this be ok for a black aro?

imo a 220 gallon might overwhelm a baby aro

what? And the millions of gallons of amazon river don't?

If the amazon river doesnt overwhelm a 2" fry, a mere 220 isnt going to...

at 2" a wild baby aro has the protection of its dad's mouth

With the 220g you'll have no problem keeping your nitrates below 10ppm. I would lower your water level a few inches and throw in a bunch of plastic floating plants. Keep surface current to a minimum and always feed in the same spot, you may also want to get a few scavenger fish to eat the leftover foods that sink to the bottom.

And you think some dont get lost from it when they are let out? Not to even mention that they are all released permanently once the egg sac is gone.

good point, i wasn't sure at what point the babies are released
