I was at home depot and was looking around for different substrates. I saw medium sized river rocks, lava rocks, white rock chips, different types of sand, bricks, concrete slabs, slate, some quarts pieces. Are any of these harmful to aquarium fish? I was interested in buying some gravel or sand I odnt know which yet. But i also found interest in one of those concrete blocks with the two squares in it. Also some flat pieces of slate and quarts and such. Are these safe to put inside an aquarium?

Depends on what can leach ot of the rock and also, depending on the rocks, the impact on ph.

I personnaly do not like sand with silica.

But i see nothing dangerous in what you mention.

I do not think so, once it is completely dry.
But wait for our scientists

The reason why some people don't like concrete is that it can cause ph swings if used in large amounts. It is extremely alkaline and can increase the ph as it slowly dissolves.

You have to cure concrete. It makes water extremely basic, think 10 pH.
