I have been doing it for the last month and love how my fish are acting now.

- they no longer sit at the glass begging/expecting food... they act more like they would when I am not around and/or sitting in the dark out of view

- my african knifefish comes out more often looking for food instead of hiding all day until food came out. Also, the lapses in feeding actually made it so he eats pellets now.

- birchirs slimmed down some and are much much more active... constantly looking for food. They used to just sit and be fat and lazy

- a little more aggressive behavior between my Ctenopomas... which is fine. no one is getting hurt, just hierarchy stuff.

- I dont have to do as many water changes and siphoning bc there isn't as much ****.

- I save money lol

anyone else feed irregularly or is everyone on a set schedule feeding 2-3 times a day?

Because of my 2, now 3 jobs, and going to school full time, my fish all get fed at different times everyday. None of them seem to mind. My fh knows where is food is kept so he gets excited when he sees me take it out otherwise he doesn't really care if i'm around or not. If I had a choice in the matter, I would not have a set schedule for feeding tho, like you said the fish act more natural I think.

I too feed them irregularly. They become more active this way. They dont become fat also. I feed them very irregulary, once, sometimes twice a day and some alternate days. I feel in the wild they dont get to eat regularly, then why should they be feed daily and at a spefic time ?

I do the same thing.

We feed at regular intervals but they come out to beg whether it's time or not. If we didn't do it this way though we'd lose track with all of the tanks and fish we have. We're careful about how much we feed though so there aren't fat fish and almost never end up suctioning food from the gravel. They spend the rest of the day foraging anyways though.

with my larger grown fish I will skip days, the tanks with the smaller growing fish I feed every day.

Sounds to me like you were feeding your fish too much. Regular times is not a problem as long as you are not over feeding. What little food hits the bottom get eaten between feedings. Usually within just a couple of minutes. But I still do my water changes. At minimum twice a week. I have one tank I do everyday for my Discus.
