Well I know some of you do based on the other racing thread, but instead of hi-jacking that one, I will start my own...

Anyhow, Im particularly interested in people who have raced their daily drivers. I LOVE driving my car so it is only natural I would want to take it to the track. Unfortunately Im not in a a time in my life to be able to afford a car dedicated soley to the sport...one day...I hope, so for now my DD it is.

Im a total noob to this and would like to find out as much as I can before I can head over to the local club and ask some real questions.

Im open to all tips and expereinces expereiences!

A good friend of mine does quite a bit of auto-x. I meet up with him every once in a while just to ride along and take some pics. He's been trying to get me to race my car since I bought it. I even went out and bought some lowering springs and 18's with a summer tire to start racing this summer, but just came to the decision to sell the car. So, not going to race anymore. :(

I only know how the local races here go. It's pretty simple, bring a helmet and take everything out of your car that you can...including spare tire, jack, etc. It's best to start out with a stock car just to get comfortable with the race format.

There are usually 3 sessions, one that you race, one you get a break, and the other you work a corner...setting up cones that get knocked over. It's best to show up early so you can walk the course several times to learn the layout and decide on the best line.

Try and find a race in the next month or so and just check it out. Most guys don't mind if you ride with them (they usually have some spare helmets that you can borrow). Talk to them and find out who would be in your class.

Let me know if there is anything else you want to know about or maybe want to drive up here to check out a meet.

My wife's cousin was dating a guy that was into Auto-X, I went once and rode along. It's a lot of fun, but it is really hard on your car. I would say it was about 50/50 daily drivers and purpose-built cars.

The picture is of my wife, she kind of reminds me of The Brain (as in Pinky and) with that helmet.

JD_MAN, sucks you are getting rid of the SI.

I know a fellow up in Indy that auto-x with a ralliart like mine and is doing very well. I just may have to get up there and check it out.
