This is my first post in off topic. Just thought I would say hi and see if anyone else was in to Mixed Martial Arts. I grew up learning Hapkido but have 5 years of Brazilian jiu jitsu / Various martial arts experience .:)

I got 4 years (14-17yrs old) of Judo under me and I was competing nationally. That was in the Philippines though. Now I remember squat about it. Well maybe not totally.

Time flies, that was 10 years ago...

i'd love to get into it. if I could rake up some moolaahh. i'd do mauy thai and Brazilian jujitsu. bad thing this, I have school, then homework, then gym, then I'd have mauythai and jujitsu. I'd never find the time for anything else.

I fit it in with a 40 hour work week. And I am doing Advanced air conditioning courses and such. But I understand most people have a really tight schedule for it. If you want to give it a try maybe once a week for a while :) Surprised more people are not into it.... And Arkman you would be surprised how quickly that knowledge comes back in time of need. Its a matter of confidence in most street situations

I would want to try mauy thai or krav maga. I got into a few fights at bars, didn't get my a** kicked but a little dinged up. Just want to learn a few things for protection.

lol if your going for bar fight wins. I wouldnt bother with MMA. Id go straight for the bas ruten training video's some are on youtube but the video shows you how to easily pick apart people in bars especially. It should get you a manslaughter charge in no time ;)
I got in three bar fights in monterey (california) in 2 months. My friend down there was always slightly ahead of me and had excellent hap kido and jiu jitsu in fact he knocked me out of a tournament in las vegas :P But when we rolled together it seems the scumbags came out of the woodwork. My favorite moment was at segovia's on lighthouse ave . My bud spencer threw a guy into a closet full of hardware (speaker wires and all kinds of ****) Ive calmed down since I was 21

Yea I actually have the video where that bar fight one on youtube is based on. It is called "Bas Ruten's Lethal Self Defence System ". I don't want to learn MMA and purposely get into bar fights, I just want to learn it so that if I ever get into another one I will not get as dingged up. I hate fighting in general. It is also an excellent way to keep in shape.

Im the same way its all about competion for me. But when the stuff hits the fan ... Its more fun than it would have been minus the training. Also yes keeps you in great shape. Look at my buddy urijah faber on you tube he weighs 145 and looks like an absolute bodybuilder but rarely spends time doing freeweights mostly just MMA

I've never done "MMA" but I've studied TKD (as a kid) and more recently Ving Tsun and Shaolin. I sparred with a Muay Thai guy for awhile in college and have been thinking about getting into it when my schedule evens out.

Been seriously contemplating it, but I'm not sure yet which discipline, and if any good places are near me. A good friend of mine was in Kenpo for a while, so I picked up some of that, but certainly not like training in it.
