Any one ever use this MINI canister filter?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
never uesd it but look cool and good i bet it will work out fine and on a ten gallon the water will be clear

It looks like an HOB with a lid...

It would come with the standard pros/cons of a cansiter... pros - silent function, less clutter at the rim... cons - higher price tag, more invovled maintenance.

If the pros outweight the cons... then it's a good buy... if not just do an HOB...

For some reason I LOVE these mini canisters. Are they any good? I dunno. Does their cute/cool factor make me want one, absolutely. I want to hear if they are any good as well.

i used a "Zoo Med TC-30 501 Turtle Canister Filter (80 GPH)" that looks almost like the same thing.

it works but it is a total pain in the ass to maintain. pulling it out to open and priming it was hell. HOBs are much easier. i used it for an amphiuma because i kept the water level at halfway and didn't want to hear all the splashing from a HOB. aquaclear is what's on it now, i'd rather deal with the noise.

I have one of the Tom's filters and I have to say I'm not impressed it doesn't seem to move much water and is difficult to maintain and one of the outlet tubes on the top finally broke off on mine and it was under a year old.

its not bad but an aqua-clear is less work and honestly the better long term choice... my canister got clogged up easily when I had it on a 15g planted tank...

I have one in my shopping cart on Fosterandsmith. I plan on using it on a 5 gallon planted. I think/hope it will work out fine! Will be another month before I order though.
