Ok, From what I know so far I have to go through a 80 day coarse to become a rifleman, then, I have to get 2 certificates and be competent to be a sniper.

Correct?

so, Just wondering if I can choose my own weapon of choice or am I issued with a weapon just like the rifleman (AUGSTEYR and the minimi). also, could you name the certificates and possible give me a link to tell me what is involved in achieving the certificates oooor just tell me.

Because My weapon of choice is a steyr scout .223, but considering it's bolt action I'm not sure.

Firstly, I imagine you're going to use whatever you're issued with.

Secondly, how old are you? I know next to nothing about Australian Snipers, but I know it's a tough job and you need to be mentally cut out for it more so than physically. You cannot just 'pass' a couple of tests and get some certificates and be cut out for such a tough job.

How experienced are you with a Steyr Scout? To become a sniper I imagine you're going to need to pass the test with whatever weapons you're issued with and by that stage you'll probably have a new preference. I'd go ahead and see how much you enjoy that 80 day Rifleman course before you start wondering if you can use your rifle as a military sniper.

Also note I am not knowledgeable on the Australian military.

Yes, I'm very sure I'm mentally cut for the job. I do not see it as murdering someone when you're fighting in a war, unless you're the one invading a country. I see it as killing someone, because they're the one signing up to the military putting themselves to risk, just the way if I were to be shot I wouldn't be murdered.

I've shot a few guns (rifles), and trust me, they're all the same in the way of shooting them, aiming, loading/cocking. I imagine I'm issued with a rifle too, I was just wondering if I could use another gun rather than the one I was issued with. (the AUGSTEYR or whatever can be used as a sniper rifle)

I supose you got that prep talk from the blokes in the Navy a week or so ago?

nope :) (navy is lame)

me and my mate were discussing it, he was always going to be in the sniper core, and I had been thinking of it for a while, so I guess it's a option of my future.

This is something i was going to go into i was in cadets and i had high hopes but i did'nt want to do it becasue i could'nt handle the killing part.
So i stuck to geting my baker carrer ahead but later in life i plan to go back to it i did enjoy it you make good friends but i could'nt handle it but yer they break you down then re-make you in a sense if you can handle it go for it:D.

the killing part is alright for me (as I expressed above) it's a pull of a trigger. It's there risk for turning themselves into the military, just as it's my risk.

What military training have you done? It's hardly a case of merely pulling a trigger and killing, that's not what I meant by the mental challenge and strain involved.

I think you've got a lot more thinking, training and preparation to go through before you should worry about what rifle you're going to use.
