I recentley "adopted" a juvinile saugeye and put him into my 70 gallon fish tank (plan on getting a bigger one) and he eating pretty well, but he just stays in the same spot all day and at night he swims around a bit. Any body know if this is normal or am i doing something wrong? I also have a 4 inch smallmouth bass and a 4 inch crappie, both eat well and are very active, but the saugeye just doesnt want to move unless there is food swimming around. Any help is welcome, and also on a side note in the local lake there are tons of walleye fry, anyone know if i caught some, what they eat? would be pretty cool to raise some walleye.

Sauger and Walleye are notoriously boring captives outside of feeding time. They hide/laze around all day, come alive to eat, then retreat back to the bottom.

That's norm for you. Walleye, sauger and saugeye just laying around all day till feeding time and they only moves when its super dark. I owned few walleyes in the past and hate them.

+1 the only person I have ever even heard of enjoying keeping walleye used to have a separate lighting system with dim red lights he would turn on sometimes at night to watch them feed, Walleye,Sauger and Pirateperch are only cool if you have a lowlight setup to view them at night with.

I think I may know the problem, my smallmouth is super aggressive towards him, when ever he swims around the smallmouth is chasing him around the tank, so I think the saugeye is scared to move. Is there anyway to reduce the aggression of the smallmouth?
