This morning I found my largest SA lungfish out on the carpet floor . He had escaped during the night so my guess he had been out of the water/tank for 12 or less hours . He was def. dried / the slim was dry and alitle cold as the house temp is about 73 F . Of course as soon as I found hiim I placed him back in the tank with the water temps at 76 F . He was very lethargic and I let him be for a few hours. I checked on him after a few hours and he would float at the top , my guess is to gulp air . Feeling bad I gently wiped the slime off his snout ( I probably shouldnt had done this ) . Ten hours later , he still floats and still alittle aloof ( def. not as active ) , but if I touch him , he will sink to the bottom and attempt to hide in the plants . I poured some declorinater/water conditioner with slime builder as he def. has lost slime towards the end of his tail .
Has anyone ever had their lungfish escape ? I would like to hear some experiences , advice on what I should do ( if anything at all ) , is his aloofness and the fact that he floats unless touched a normal thing after a tragedy ?
I'm very frustrated with myself and worried about him . I def. corrected the problem and put a lock on the lid.
PLease chim in !!!!!
Thanks a million !!!!

Leave him be.

Considering he's a Lungfish, some good TLC should be enough. Also, don't wipe off the slime, that's going to make things worse.

x2.

The big SAL that I used to have got out of his aquarium one night, and I found him fairly dried out and alive the next morning. I rinsed him off with aquarium water in a separate container to get the dust and other stuff off of him, and I placed him back in his aquarium. He recovered just fine and was eating again the next day.
