This a very nice looking species of cichlid! I had a friend tell me about this particular species yesterday and I noticed there's not a whole lot of pictures of them on the internet. From what I've read they are from Ecuador, which might be why I don't see a whole lot of them on the internet (exportation ban?). If anyone owns this species, I'd love to see some pictures posted here. Also, does anyone know where to buy some?

The pictures I posted are from google images.

I just noticed I spelt the name wrong in the title and can't edit the title!

The name is Seiichi Hamada cichlid, just as it's spelt in the pictures :)

LOL, that's the name of the photographer (and likely owner) of the fish, not the fish itself. That fish is exCichlasoma ornatum (or a close relative, depending on who you ask). If you want to see much nicer individuals of this species (just my opinion) look up Mel O's video of them on YouTube.

LMAO, yea I kept getting some websites that were talking about ornatums but when I googled them I saw some that were less colorful than the ones pictured so i thought it was a different species? Are the bright colors breeding dress or what?

I've never kept them but I've seen Mel's in person and seen juvies locally. He said his were late bloomers and a pain to raise (came in sick and they don't like each other). There were some questions I saw some guys who know more than me asking if a semi-recent batch was ornatum or gephyrum or...? I know Mel got his (and I do believe his are the real deal ornatum) through Oliver Lucanis and Lucanis now ships to Dan Ye Jennings in the states, who I think has some. Also saw The Wet Spot got some in but I have no idea where they are from. They won't be cheap.

They are very weird fish. I had 4 of them they grow so slow they look like they virtually don't grow at all I had mine for a year and a half and they never got bigger. They are very aggressive twords each other and don't show a whole lot of personality. They prefer cooler water from 75-80F any warmer and they would lose color and sit on the bottom breathing hard, in my experience anyway. Neat fish though, you can forget about trying to spawn them as I've only herd of two people that were successful in very large amounts of water.
