I'll be setting up the 210 soon and was going to buy some new live sand for it. But, I figured if I could move the existing sand from the 75 also, I would need to buy as much. Any problem with mixing new and old, and different type of sand?

Thanks

Have done this before, and i swore i would never do it again...

The ammount of crap and crud that is locked away in a sandbed is unreal....If anything, i would scoop off only the top inch, MAXIMUM, and ditch the rest...mix that scooped off sand into the new sandbed...

What about once I move the fish out of the old tank. Stir up the sand and let the mechanical filter capture the crud that floats. I'll probably have to stir it up a few times, but would that hurt anything or cause the sand to be no good to move?

For me, you'd still be taking across some undesirables into the new sand bed which is why i would not do this...Of course, to me, my marines are a there as an investment and if i feel i could put the tank in a position of something potentially going pete tong, then i wont do it...I'll bite the bullet and spend the money.....

i agree i have moved small amounts of sand in past but that was sucked out with syphon and used for cycle reasons...
